Episode 189 A Review of the Food Network Show Chopped

Today I’m going out on a limb and doing a quick review of the show Chopped.  Chopped shows on Food Network on Tuesdays at 10/9 central.

This show is, in my opinion, one of the best on TV if you are trying to learn to be a better cook.

Excellent show! Have you seen Good Eats? I think it might change your mind about the best cooking show. Alton Brown teaches you how to cook by showing the science behind it with witty humor. It’s awesome!

Jason – I’m such a Good Eats fan that we went and saw Alton Brown in Lexington back in 2003(ish).  My wife convinced him to take a picture with us.

Unfortunately there are two problems – one, Good Eats was cancelled (I think about a year back but maybe more recent) so its not on TV any longer (except for reruns).  I know a shaky qualification.

I had in my notes to talk about Good Eats and how much I appreciated that show, the science, the ethnobotany, food anthropology.  It had it all.  I know you can’t believe everything you read but I’ve heard that Alton has changed quite a bit.
The day we met him was literally the only time I’ve ever felt like I was taking too much of a celebrity’s time.  He spent like what seemed like 10 minutes talking to me about brewing and vinting once he found out that was my thing.  From what I’ve read he is no longer as affable and kind.  I guess celebrity changes people or I can’t believe everything I’ve read.
