On today’s show I talk about how useful the much maligned sweet gum tree can be.  Some things I’ve found out about it and some otherwise documented uses.

Jason – Another “unseen” use for sweet-gum trees. For those of us who are beekeepers, the sweet-gum provides a plentiful amount of resin for the bees to use as propolis in their hives. This is used for both sealing unwanted holes/cracks – and is also thought to be a huge part of honeybees’ immune system of the hive.

Time Travel: A lot of people would use time travel to go back in time and kill dictators like Hitler, Amin, or Bush, but I would go back and cut down that damn sweet gum tree in my front yard when it was a sapling.

    Now that’s funny!

Why don’t you coppice it about 4 feet high and let it bush out again. It will take care of your gumball issue for a few years at least.
