I got some soaker hose from my brother to use in my garden this year.  When I started getting things ready I buried the soaker hose about a foot deep or so throughout the bed.  Did I screw up or does this sound like a decent idea?  I figured it would keep the water where the plants needed it, but I could be wrong (it has happened before).

I've never used soaker hose, but plan on doing it this year.  I've always read that it stays on top, but is buried under the mulch.  But I'll be watching the thread so I set up mine correctly.

My soaker hose has been in "operation" for two years. It lays on top of the ground and covered with mulch.

I think soakers are a good solution, but mine have always broken after 2 years, I am using 1/4 drip line from IrrigationDirect.com and it is on its 3rd year and still looks good.  Fingers crossed it makes it through this season too.

I did the same thing.  I have pulled out all the soaker for drip lines.

I agree that the drip irrigation would probably be the best...but these were free so I figured I would give them a shot.  My thinking is that since they are buried so far down it should be much less wasted water.

Wouldn't you need far more drip lines than soaker hoses to handle the same sized bed?  Do you need 1 drip line for each plant?
