Around here, June is kind of a quiet period in the garden.  I'm bored with spring greens. There's a distant threat of summer squash, but the rest of the garden is just putting out leaves and getting taller.  Nothing to harvest -- I won't even have cherry tomatoes for two more weeks.  So I kind of slack off, which means pests have a chance to sneak in and ruin everything.

What should I plant next year, that comes ready for harvest in the gap between the early spring vegetables and the big summer ones?

Bush style green beans?

I have a few turnips still left to pick.

I also harvest honey this time of year.

I mostly enjoy doing things with the family during this time.

Yeah, beans/legumes are an excellent choice. Once the weather gets warm enough in the spring, you can start planting beans and continue harvests all the way through into the fall. Plus they're easy as heck to grow. Beans, beans, good for your heart... well, you know the rest.

For us there is no lull really until mid-July.  Well even then I am back to tending the seedlings inside for the fall garden.  I wish we had a June lull... so I say, just rest up and get some inside/outside projects done.  Or enjoy some suntea in the shade  Grin
